The Roofing Alliance Announces Texas A&M as Winning Team in Student Competition

Texas A&M competed against four other finalist teams during the International Roofing Expo®.

(Rosemont, IL) February 20, 2020—The Roofing Alliance, the foundation of the National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA), proudly announces Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas, as this year’s winner of the Construction Management Student Competition. The team consisted of Tyler Stivers (team captain), Austin Davis (alternate), Erbey Hernandez, Collin Rosser and Kyler Hardison. Faculty advisor was Lance Simms and team mentor was Mark Standifer, King of Texas Roofing Company, LP, Grand Prairie, Texas.

Team mentor Mark Standifer, expressing his pride for the team and the school, said, "As a graduate of Texas A&M, I know this educational experience prepared me to become a manager at King of Texas Roofing. I feel I owe this great institution a lot for my success and I wanted to give back something to the current students. The construction industry, and roofing, needs the intelligence and discipline of young men and women who have completed a college degree. These students will be the leaders of the future for our industry!"

Standifer also thanked his company, King of Texas Roofing for their support and encouragement of his mentorship of the students saying, "I want to thank my employer for allowing me to make that weekly trip over to College Station (3 hours there and 3 hours back) to train these students. I couldn't have done it without my company's support and encouragement."

The Texas A&M students competed against four other finalist teams, giving oral presentations as the final stage of the sixth annual Roofing Alliance Construction Management Student Competition. The teams presented their proposals for installing a new roof system on the Ford Center, the practice facility of the Dallas Cowboys, which was originally installed by KPost Roofing & Waterproofing to a panel of roofing industry experts. The oral presentation scores were combined with the teams’ written proposal scores to determine the winning team.
