2020-21 Construction Management Student Competition

After hearing virtual oral presentations and conducting a 10-minute Q&A session with each finalist team, the judges reviewed their notes and scores and determined this year’s winning teams. First place went to Palmetto Roofing from Clemson University. Team members were Declan Fay, Allison O’Toole, Hannah Smith, Hendrix Smith (alternate) and Luke Skertich (team captain).

A few elements that set the Clemson University team apart were a thorough understanding of the project; a well-prepared virtual presentation; and responding well to the judges’ questions. Their oral presentation scores combined with their written proposal scores determined their first-place position.

Colorado State University won second place for the fourth year in a row. This year’s team members were Kendall Carter, Terry Copperman (alternate), Joshua Houser (team captain), Jacob Schneider and Mackenzie Voshage.

As first- and second-place winners, the teams received team trophies and scholarships for their schools, as well as individual team member trophies. The teams also have been invited to attend the August International Roofing Expo® in Las Vegas.

The judges selected Allison O’Toole from Clemson University as the first-place Best Individual Presenter and Joshua Houser from Colorado State University as the second-place Best Individual Presenter.

We want to thank everyone who contributed to the success of this year’s competition—Construction Management Schools Initiative Committee members, team mentors, judges, faculty and, of course, the students for all their hard work! We look forward to our eighth competition and team presentations, which will take place during NRCA’s 135th Annual Convention and the 2022 International Roofing Expo® Feb. 1-3, 2022, in New Orleans.
