In 1996, The Roofing Alliance was established within the National Roofing Foundation (NRF)* to create a permanent endowment fund to serve as a highly focused resource for the roofing industry and its customers.
The Roofing Alliance’s objectives are to conduct research and educational projects that support high-quality programs for roofing contractors; ensure timely and forward-thinking industry responses to major economic and technological issues; and enhance the long-term viability and attractiveness of the industry to roofing workers.
The Roofing Alliance also has a philanthropic side, which includes reaching out to the roofing community and its members and helping fund efforts dedicated to good works and charitable giving.
The Roofing Alliance also sponsors scholarships for undergraduate students who are employees, immediate family members of employees or immediate family members of NRCA-contractor and supplier members.
Composed of significant contributors, the Roofing Alliance meets twice yearly to analyze, select, recommend and provide oversight for projects addressing critical industry issues.
The Roofing Alliance brings together leading contractors, manufacturers and suppliers committed to securing the future strength and excellence of the roofing industry.
A few of the Roofing Alliance projects funded to date include: 1) a national survey of roofing workers, conducted by The Gallup Organization, providing an in-depth examination of employee satisfaction in the roofing industry; 2) the NRCA Roof Application Training Program series; 3) a study of roof longevity and replacement activity conducted by Ducker Worldwide; 4) a study to examine what the industry would look like in 20 years; 5) a study at Penn State University on business and contract strategies for solar roof systems; and 6) support for Florida International University’s Wall of Wind program — a full-scale destructive testing facility intended to better replicate roof performance under high-wind conditions.
*NRCA established the National Roofing Foundation (NRF), a separate but related organization, to undertake educational and research projects. NRF is a nonprofit, public foundation incorporated in Illinois and exempt from federal income taxation under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Contributions to the foundation/Alliance are tax deductible, as provided by law.
