Recruitment Efforts in the Roofing Industry Part 2

After a recession that resulted in thousands of talented contractors and skilled workers leaving the construction industry nearly a decade ago, the construction industry continues to see record growth in employment opportunities. In this two-part article, the members of the Roofing Alliance, the Foundation of the National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA), are discussing recruitment tactics that may help roofing companies and professionals meet the demand for employment opportunities.

In the last part, we focused on a few of the primary challenges of recruiting skilled young workers. In this section, we will focus on how organizations like the Roofing Alliance are making a difference by partnering with schools, funding scholarship programs, and developing training initiatives that promote roof technology and roofing innovation.

Getting Involved in the Roofing Industry

The Roofing Alliance is a non-profit, educational foundation that is dedicated to funding initiatives that benefit the roofing industry as a whole including the following:

Education: The Roofing Alliance partners with distinguished universities to promote a career in roofing and raise awareness in regard to opportunities within the roofing sector. Whether it’s creating scholarship opportunities, connecting their roofing contractor members with local schools in their areas to develop internship positions, funding research projects, or hosting a nationally-recognized student competition, the Roofing Alliance is devoted to working with construction management schools to make certain that students are aware that a career in the roofing industry is a viable option for their future.

Certification:  The Roofing Alliance helped fund the National Roofing Contractors Association’s (NRCA) national training initiative, ProCertification™. ProCertification™ is designed to create a competent, sustainable and high-performing roofing industry workforce. Experienced roofing workers can demonstrate their skills and knowledge to become certified roof system installers and foremen in specific roof system disciplines.

If you are a roofing contractor, supplier, manufacturer, or industry professional interested in recruiting the next generation of talented roofing professionals, the Roofing Alliance is dedicated to shaping the future of the roofing industry.
