We had a great turnout for the Nov. 14 member reception and Nov. 15 member meeting held during NRCA and the Roofing Alliance’s Fall Meetings. Here are a few highlights from the meeting:
- Members approved a $5,000 contribution for a Helping Our Own request. The contribution was to help with the cost of a “Hero’s arm” and related expenses for Isabella Tadlock, daughter of Dale Tadlock, Tadlock Roofing, Tallahassee, Fla.
- Dr. Dhaval Gajjar reported the progress of the college-level course, “Principles of Roofing from Design to Installation and Beyond,” which will be offered in January at Clemson University. The objective is to educate millennials and Generation Z about the roofing industry—attracting and retaining.
- Nick Sabino, chairman of the NRCA/Roofing Alliance CTE Outreach Task Force reported on current career and technical education efforts, including partnering with the National Center for Construction Education and Research to develop new steep- and low-slope curriculum; partnering with SkillsUSA to introduce roofing to CTE and high school students and educators and to include a roofing component in its 2020 TeamWorks competition; and developing a toolkit members can use for outreach in their local communities.
- Matt Dupuis with Structural Research gave an update about the moisture release in concrete roof decks study, which will be complete by the 2020 International Roofing Expo® in Dallas.
