Construction Management Schools Initiative

CM Cares recognition–Roofing Alliance member Dennis Conway, Commercial Roofers Inc., Las Vegas, recently visited Colorado State University. While there, he dropped into the construction management department and noticed the plaque on the wall showing the Roofing Alliance as a Silver Partner with Colorado State University’s CM Cares Program.

Faculty Research–Two projects being funded by the Roofing Alliance are nearing completion. A Study of the U.S. Roofing Industry and Its Workforce is being conducted by a faculty research team at Arizona State University. The ASU team will share the results of the demographic study they have been working on at the member meeting in Chicago Nov. 15.  Additionally, Clemson University’s curriculum development project also is ending. The course, “Principles of Roofing from Design to Installation and Beyond,” will be offered at Clemson starting January 2020. Dr. Dhaval Gajjar with Clemson also will provide an update at the Nov. 15 meeting.

Student Competition – Details for the Roofing Alliance’s sixth student competition were sent to 79 construction management schools Sept. 1. As of writing this update, six schools are planning to enter teams, including Clemson University (new), Colorado State University, East Carolina University (new), Kennesaw State University, Louisiana State University and Minnesota State University—Mankato.

Bill Good, our representative to the American Council for Construction Education (ACCE), reports there is a great deal of “buzz” among ACCE faculty about our competition. Before sending information out to the schools, several faculty members contacted us asking for competition details after talking to Bill. One school even asked if they could enter two teams! We are excited to see how the competition develops. Teams have until Oct. 7 to commit.
