April-May 2019 member update

As we bring our fiscal year to a close, we are pleased to announce and welcome our newest Roofing Alliance Governor member Mary McNamara, Cornell Roofing & S/M Inc., Independence, Mo. Four new members have joined the Roofing Alliance since June 1, 2018. We want to thank our member development team for all their hard work.

APRIL MEMBER MEETING
What a great member meeting! We had strong attendance—a good balance of contractors, manufacturers, distributors and individual members.

APPROVED OPERATING BUDGETS AND FUNDING
The 2019-20 operating budgets for the General Roofing Alliance fund and the Melvin Kruger Endowed Scholarship fund—including $55,000 for student scholarships—were approved.

ROOFING ALLIANCE – RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE CHARITIES© PARTNERSHIP
At the April meeting, Hilary Ward, manager of corporate sponsorships for Ronald McDonald House Charities© thanked all members for their continued support of the Roofing Alliance-RMHC© partnership.

BRANDING EFFORTS
Another group of members who have had a significant effect this year is our Branding Task Force. Kudos to Charles Antis, Greg Bloom, Marc Cameron, Susan DeGrassi, Rudy Gutierrez, Dave Lawlor, Tom Saeli, Michelle Sporer-Hunt and Cori Vernam.

CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT SCHOOLS INITIATIVE
We received a letter of appreciation from R. Raymond Issa, professor and interim director at the University of Florida, Gainesville, on behalf of the M.E. Rinker, Sr. School of Construction Management for the “generosity and continued support of the Rinker School’s Scholarship Program”; seven students from the school were awarded the Roofing Alliance Scholarship for the 2018-19 academic school year.

NRCA GIVING DAY
Each June, NRCA holds National Roofing Week to share the pride of being a roofing professional and celebrate the generosity of the roofing industry.

THANK YOU FROM ROB MCREYNOLDS
For those of you who may not know, Roofing Alliance member Rob McReynolds, now retired but formerly with D&D Roofing, Commerce City, Colo., has been diagnosed with Stage 4 Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma.

RETIRING AND NEW OFFICERS/DIRECTORS
We want to thank the following board trustees whose terms expire May 31.

DON’T FORGET – only FIVE more Ronald McDonald House roofs to be adopted. Won’t you help us reach our goal? If you haven’t adopted the roof of your local Ronald McDonald house, please consider doing so. Or let us know if you know someone who is interested in partnering with us in this initiative.

In closing, I want to say thank you for the opportunity to serve as your president this past year. Since June 1, it has been a nonstop whirlwind of activity. It has been exciting to work alongside fellow members who truly care about our industry and whose passion, energy and drive are contagious. That’s how things get done, and our momentum is in full swing! At past meetings, there have been conversations about needing to really ramp up our communication efforts to get the word out about all we are doing. That is no longer the case! We now have vehicles in place to regularly communicate the critical role we hold within the industry, the advances we have made and how successful we can be when everyone in the industry works together. The Roofing Alliance offers a unique opportunity to make a difference in shaping the future of the roofing industry, which has been so good to all of us and our families. We need all members to remain actively involved every step of the way. Working together, we can continue to achieve great things with the Roofing Alliance. We will be in fine hands as Josh takes the reins. Josh has been a fantastic partner and is strongly committed to making us even better. Best wishes, Josh, as you begin your journey.
