Advancing the Roofing Industry with Education Initiatives and NRCA’s ProCertification™ Program Part 1

The National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA) has developed several education and training initiatives designed to advance the roofing industry. In addition, NRCA’s ProCertification™ program is the first national certification that provides roofing professionals with the opportunity to obtain specialized credentials in the field of roofing.

In this three-part article, members of the Roofing Alliance, the Foundation of the NRCA, will discuss effective ways that roofing companies can promote professional roofing development initiatives to advance the industry. Here is a breakdown of what we will discuss in each part of this article:

  • In this part, we will cover how roofing companies can recruit and retain the next generation of roofing professionals through online education and training initiatives.
  • In the second part, we will provide you with many specific details related to the NRCA’s ProCertification™ program and how roofing professionals can become certified.
  • In the third part, we will discuss the many benefits that both roofing companies and roofing professionals can enjoy when these professionals advance their career by becoming credentialed in specialized roofing tasks.

Taking the Classroom Experience Online

Roofing companies are faced with the considerable challenge of recruiting the next generation of roofing professionals. Technology will play a key role in not only attracting roofing professionals but also retaining them through interactive online-based education programs. NRCA’s Training for Roof Application Careers (TRAC) offers a variety of cost-effective, online training programs that assist roofing workers with furthering their roofing education:

  • Professionals can learn about specific roofing systems.
  • They can learn installation methods for a variety of roofing systems.
  • Professionals can be educated on impact-resistant roof systems.
  • They can learn valuable, in-depth industry knowledge or basic knowledge such as how to discuss roofing materials with other trades.

One added bonus to these online programs is that the courses span everything from teaching new roofing workers about the basics of roofing systems to assisting advanced roofing workers. The concept is that, over time, roofing professionals will learn more and more about roofing systems through online training courses and experience on the jobsite.

Benefits of Online Educational Training

There are many benefits to shifting educational focus and organizational training techniques from classrooms to a web-based platform that features interactive software:

  • Employees can access courses and learn at their own speed.
  • They can learn these lessons remotely on their own time.
  • Electronic education training is a cost-effective solution.
  • They are utilizing a medium of technology they are familiar with.
  • Educational training lessons created by a national association provide consistent instruction for all professionals utilizing these resources nationwide.
